Concrete doesn't crack and drop on its own — it sinks because the ground beneath it moves. In Southwest Florida the slab is usually poured over sandy fill, and that fill washes and settles over time. Downspouts and irrigation channel water under the edge of a driveway, storm runoff erodes the base, and poorly compacted fill keeps consolidating for years after the pour.
Once there's a gap under the slab, the concrete has nothing to lean on and it settles into the void — leaving a low spot that pools water, a lip that trips people, and cracks where the slab flexes.
